My name is Les Green, and this is the Sandhills SkyShed website. The Sandhills SkyShed is a small observatory in North Platte Nebraska. If you don’t know what a SkyShed POD is, it’s like a big plastic playground set, for grownups, who still dream like a kid. I got into astronomy about 1994 and always wanted to have a permanent setup, being in the military put this dream on hold for twenty something years. Putting a telescope in the yard to look at the stars is simple and lots of fun. Setting up a telescope for taking pictures of deep space objects can be a complicated process, and lugging everything in and out of the house all the time gets to be a pain. But astrophotography is something I always wanted to do. I built the Sandhills Skyshed to follow that dream. All farmers in Nebraska can rejoice since it will be cloudy and rainy for a long time.
See what all went into getting it set up here.
